Self Esteem
Are you feeling lockdown fury / despair/ boredom?
Being out of control of our own lives makes us feel SO frustrated and insecure about what might be ahead.
It’s really easy to think some of this is our own fault.
If you’ve ever been in a place where you’ve had to negotiate with some big organisation, or with an employer about work issues or any situation which leaves you feeling disempowered remember how amazing it is that you have got to where you are today through being you. And think about what you can do – something will work.
I’m not a great one for grand statements about inspiration or making the future whatever you want it to be. As it happens I do think you can but, let’s face it, that does require effort. BUT you have done a load of things to get to where you are today and you should give yourself credit for that. It’s so easy just to think ‘Done that – what’s next?’
What have you learned?
What exams or courses have you taken?
What jobs have you done without taking any exams but you’re perfectly good at the job without that. What did you have to do to achieve that?
How much do you know about what you do in your life that you take for granted. Stop and make a list of all those things. I guarantee you there’s a lot.
Are you bringing up children? That’s amazing in itself.
What have you done to keep going so far during this let’s face it quite pooey time.
What actually thinking about it has it allowed you to do that you couldn’t have done otherwise?
Coaching really is all about reframing in the possible – not the unrealistically ideal. It feels so much better to look forward. Someone said to me that it had given her the permission to feel optimistic.
All things pass. When I feel down – and of course I do – I find the solution is to DO something. Could be learning, working, exercise anything that allows your mind space just to be you. The best things come to you when you daydream.
Someone I have worked with told me her coach said – ‘you know you are going to die?’
Bit extreme but I get the point.
Just when you are getting used to something it will be over so make the most of being you.
